Presented by well-known Kurdish singer and musician Tara Jaff, tonight's show is a celebration of Kurdish music. Her guest is the popular Kurdish singer Sarkaut. As well as talkikng about his life and career, Sarkaut is playing tracks from his most recent CD, 'Yaran' meaning The Lovers. The combination of Sarkaut's mellow voice with traditional and modern instruments, together with arrangements by Goran Kamil, the musical arranger for the Kurdish ensemble Living Fire, has made the CD a favourite in Kurdistan and the diaspora. |

Tonight DJ Abeed will be playing his own finely crafted cocktail of world roots and global beats with which he recently saw off 11 other international finalists in London to win the 2005 World Beat DJ title. Cultural Co-operations's Rizwan Butt will occasionally interrupt him to draw out some of his thoughts on DJ-ing, sourcing music and on his top tips for producing the ultimate compilation. |

Along with invited guests, Indian storyteller Seema Anand will be examining the art of storytelling. Where once music and dance would have been integral to the telling of stories, she will be looking at why these artforms have become decoupled. She will also be revealing the origins of some well-known stories and looking at what these stories have come to mean today. |

London-based singer/songwriter Katina Kangaris, the latest recruit to the acclaimed F-IRE Collective - whose roster of artists include Polar Bear (Mercury Prize Nominees 2005) is in the studio with Ulli Meinke to perform and talk about her hew EP Shine. Katina will be talking about how she has connected all the music she loves in her new album; from old Greek 1920s Rembetika, to simple Joni Mitchell type songs, and a bunch of songs by people like Villa Lobos and Poulenc. |

With the trendification of Brick Lane gathering momentum, long-time Eastender and mixed media artist Sanchita Islam will be asking Jobeda Khanam and Sonaia Mehta about the implications this will have, and has, had on both the social mix of the area and on local artistic creativity as new bars, boutiques and restaurants make increasing demands on resources. Jobeda is the Community Programme Development worker at East London's soon-to-be-launched creative centre "Rich Mix" and Sonia Mehta is managing director of Asian Dub Foundation. |

Prepare yourselves for some pure percussive madness! Saul Eisenburg, member of the innovative "world" folk group Klektivo will be guiding us into the vast gardens of West African drumming with Baba Kone, one of London's most talented West African drummers and composers. Moving from West Africa onto the fertile musical soils of South America, Saul will also be drawing our attention to the percussion of Brazil with Laurie and his Pagoji group. A promised combined finale with all ten percussionists will leave you rhythmically rewired! |

Cascada, a six-piece female percussion group, will be in the studio creating explosive yet sweet vibrations. Their sound has been described as a confection of dynamic West African drum patterns and Afro-Cuban folkloric grooves. They will be joining tonight's host Debbie Golt (aka DJ Debbie) in lively conversation about the musical journeys of both the collective and the individual members who have roots in the cultures of the Caribbean, Ireland and England. |

Tonight music journalist and global music DJ Jamie Renton (fRoots and Chilli Fried) talks to the charismatic Palestintian singer Reem Kelani. You will be hearing exclusive tracks from Reem's debut CD 'Sprinting Gazelle: Palestinian Songs from the Motherland and the Diaspora' which is set for a release on February 2006 on Fuse Records. Reem will also be sharing personal stories from her numerous research trips to Palestine from which the album's songs are selected. Expect live acapella singing and be prepared for the sheer emotional power of Reem's voice to warm your heart. An artist not to be missed. |

Alexander D Great, one of Britain's most prolific calypso and soca performers, gives the audience tonight an insight into the music of the Caribbean. Joining him will be musicologist Dr Tina Ramnarine who will be playing some Chutney and Chutney Soca, two different but culturally linked styles found in Trinidad and Guyana. |
